Horst Celebrates Administrative Professionals Week

Meet Christine Hess, Horst Project Assistant

As we celebrate Administrative Professionals Week here at Horst, we thought we would share a behind the scenes look at what it takes to fill the invaluable role of Project Assistant. If Horst Construction were a machine, Christine Hess would easily be likened to the oil. In her role as Project Assistant, her reach is vastly important not only to the success of our project managers, but also to the efficiency of the projects themselves.

“I love interacting with the various clients and vendors at Horst. It is very fulfilling helping people get what they need when they call the office. Developing a good rapport with our Owners and ensuring they have another point of contact is something I thoroughly enjoy.”

Getting to know Christine Hess, Horst Construction’s Project Assistant, is not a challenging task. Christine is outgoing and vibrant, with a lively demeanor and a can-do attitude. When asked what tasks are her favorites, it was easy to see that she is a people person first and foremost. That’s not to say that she also needs quiet time to focus. “The team knows that if I have my headphones in, it means I’m getting down to business. Usually I listen to classical music to concentrate on developing contracts or other important documents for a project.”

The team, Christine refers to, includes eight Project Managers, as well as the Vice President of Operations, field staff, and all other related departments. That keeps her pretty busy, but she wouldn’t have it any other way. “I thrive on being busy. I like to think I’m a very organized and detail-oriented person. That helps me to stay on top of what needs to be done and keeps things moving along efficiently.”

Those not familiar with the Project Assistant role may mistakenly assume that it’s administrative; however, it’s much more comprehensive. In fact, the reason that Christine was drawn to the construction industry is because she enjoys seeing the project move through each stage. “Working in construction is not like most other industries—there is a tangible end product to show what the team’s hard work has accomplished.”

When asked about the future, Christine would like to continue to learn and grow. “On one hand, I like what I do right now, but I also want to advance. I could see myself working as an office manager or contract administrator for Horst, just magnifying some of the items I love to do in a different way.”

National Administrative Professionals Day is Wednesday, April 26th
